A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
begin.

Do I need AI to use Draftlore?

No. Write, organize, track canon and promises manually, compare drafts, use review rooms, and compile without an AI key. Optional AI tools use your own OpenAI or Anthropic connection. Dictation, Listen, and OpenAI Table Read voices need an OpenAI connection; device Table Read voices are an alternative.

Your Draftlore subscription does not include AI provider usage. Providers bill you separately, with no Draftlore markup. ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions do not include developer API usage. Read the API key setup guide →

Does AI change my manuscript automatically?

AI suggestions remain proposals until you choose to apply them. Inline Revision Review lets you accept or reject individual changes. Story Health findings are review cues, and Adaptation Lab accepts work into a separate target project.

Can I try another ending without changing my main draft?

Yes. Create an independent alternate copy, then develop its new direction. Compare drafts, select the changes you want, and preview the result before bringing them back. Creating a copy does not automatically rewrite the story. Creation and comparison need a connection but no AI key.

What does Story Health check?

Choose a scene, chapter, selected scenes, or a supported manuscript scope. Evidence-only checks review items such as repeated text and stale receipts; optional AI checks look for possible continuity, character-knowledge, setup, and pacing concerns. Findings cite passages for you to inspect.

Scope previews and coverage information show what can be checked and what has been completed. Larger drafts may need smaller scopes. Findings support your judgment; a completed check does not guarantee that every issue has been detected.

How do Adaptation Lab and Table Read work?

Adaptation Lab works with selected scenes in batches. Set a brief, review a written or AI-generated proposal against the saved source, and accept scenes into a separate linked project. Your source manuscript stays independent.

Table Read is for screenplays. Assign character and narrator voices, follow highlighted lines, and leave revision notes you can reopen in the editor.

Can readers edit my working draft?

Readers and editors see the selected review edition you share. Readers comment; editors can also propose changes. You decide what reaches the manuscript. Private planning and canon are not included in the review edition.

Can I bring an existing manuscript and export my work?

Yes. Import writing and research, organize the manuscript into chapters and scenes, and export novels as PDF, Word, or EPUB. Screenplay projects support screenplay PDF output.

What works offline?

After an online visit, the most recently cached workspace supports writing and selected saved story tools. Device edits sync when you reconnect. AI generation, new story scans, review rooms, draft management, and compilation need a connection; offline access depends on what is already saved on that device.

How do the trial and cancellation work?

The trial includes 14 days of studio access without a credit card. Afterward, choose $12.99 monthly or $119 annually. Canceling stops the next renewal. After paid access ends, projects remain available to read and export; editing requires an active subscription. See the refund policy for payment terms.

How does Draftlore compare?

Novelcrafter emphasizes a flexible story bible. Type combines editing, story notes, and narration. Draftlore brings preserved source evidence, payoff decisions, and independent draft experiments into the writing process.

AutoCrit offers whole-series analysis. Draftlore reviews the current book using selected shared canon; it does not scan every book together.

Based on published features reviewed September 15, 2026, not independent output-quality testing.
