Draftlore works without AI. When you want Story Buddy, voice cleanup, narration, or scanned-document reading, connect a developer API key from OpenAI or Anthropic.

Create an OpenAI API key

For OpenAI models, dictation, narration, and scanned-document reading.

    Open the developer platform

    Sign in at the OpenAI developer platform—not the regular ChatGPT website.

    Set up API billing

    Open Billing and add payment details or prepaid credits. Review auto-recharge and set a comfortable monthly limit.

    Create and copy the key

    Open API Keys, choose “Create new secret key,” and name it “Draftlore.” Copy it immediately—the complete secret is shown only once.

  4. 04

    Connect it to Draftlore

    Paste the key into the OpenAI field and select Connect. Draftlore validates and encrypts it before saving.

CLAUDE CONSOLE

Create an Anthropic API key

For Claude models inside Story Buddy.

    Open the Claude Console

    Sign in to the Claude developer Console. It is separate from the regular Claude chat website, though you may use the same email.

    Add usage credits

    Open Settings, then Billing. Add a payment method and buy prepaid credits. If you enable auto-reload, choose a threshold and spending limit.

    Create and copy the key

    Open API Keys—or your workspace’s API Keys tab—choose “Create Key,” and name it “Draftlore.” Copy the secret and keep it private.

    Connect it to Draftlore

    Paste the key into the Anthropic field and select Connect. Draftlore validates and encrypts it before saving.

KEEP THE KEY PRIVATE

Treat it like a password.

Never place an API key in a manuscript, email, screenshot, or support message. If it may have been exposed, delete it in the provider’s Console and create a replacement. Draftlore never displays your complete saved key.
